They can’t all be good for you

A 6-inch Sriracha Chicken Melt contains 26 grams of fat and 420 calories.

Subway has done a very good job pitching itself as a much healthier alternative to burger-based fast-food chains like McDonald’s and Wendy’s, but at the end of the day, it’s still a fast-food chain. And while there are plenty of healthy options to be found there, many items on their menu have just as much fat, calories, and sodium as its competitor under the Golden Arches. We’ve found the 10 unhealthiest items on Subway’s menu.

Subway’s 10 Unhealthiest Sandwiches (Slideshow)

Don’t get us wrong: Among the major fast-food chains (of which Subway is the largest), Subway has more healthy options than any other. Their kids’ meals are the healthiest offerings from any chain, and you’ll be out of luck should you ask for an order of french fries. Heck, Jared Fogle actually did lose a whole lot of weight by eating there every day. And their "6 Grams of Fat or Less" menu is about as healthy as it gets; their 6-inch turkey breast sub contains just 3.5 grams of fat and 280 calories with no cheese or mayo, making it what has to be the healthiest fast-food meal on the market today.

But for person who walks into a Subway with their waistline in mind, there are others who couldn’t care less about nutritional value. And Subway has plenty of options for them. From a meatball sub to a mayo-laden tuna sandwich, it’s pretty easy to go overboard with a 6-inch sub, let alone a 12-inch, which is basically the equivalent of saying "Super-size me!" to your sandwich artist. And don’t forget, you can add everything from bacon to pepperoni to extra cheese to your sandwiches, elevating its caloric content to astronomical heights.

So click here to learn which 10 items on Subway’s everyday menu contain the most fat, calories, sodium, and cholesterol. And while it might seem that these are all Footlongs, all the nutritional info is actually for 6-inch subs, with no cheese when specified.

The 5 Least Healthy Sandwiches You Can Order At Subway

Subway's 'Eat Fresh' motto helped it take over the world.

But not all of Subway's options are healthy.

We examined Subway's menu with assistance from Find The Best and found some options you should avoid if you're on a diet.

All of the nutrition values are for 6'' subs on multigrain bread with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and cucumbers. We note for added condiments and cheese in our listing.

5. Spicy Italian With Cheese (530 calories).

With multiple meats featured, it's not surprising that this popular sub is high in fat and sodium. If you order it with Italian Herbs And Cheese Bread and add the olive oil blend, the calorie count goes up to 630.

4. Meatball Marinara With Cheese (530 calories).

The Meatball Marinara sub has significantly more calories than options like ham or turkey. The marinara sauce adds sugar and salt to the dish.

3. Big Philly Cheesesteak (550 calories).

Loaded with beef and cheese, this sandwich packs a caloric punch. Adding mayonnaise tacks on 100 additional calories.

2. Chicken Bacon Ranch Melt With Cheese (570 calories).

This sandwich is one of Subway's most popular offerings. The cheese, bacon, and ranch dressing pack on calories. Try skipping the cheese and save 50 calories.

1. Fritos Chicken Enchilada Melt with Southwest Sauce (680 calories).

It's not surprising that this Frito-topped sub is one of the highest calorie items. It's also high in fat and sodium.

Foods You'll Never See at Subway Again

Subway is good (or at least OK) at one thing: sub-style sandwiches where you can choose your own toppings. The sandwich chain is known for its footlong sandwiches and veggie topping bar. And while its classic offerings have remained on the menu for years, some beloved Subway items have been discontinued over time.

Here are some of the things you won't see on a Subway menu these days. We know—the loss of the rotisserie chicken still hurts.

It can be kind of jarring to bite into a sandwich and realize that the middle of the chicken is ice cold. User k8bit has a suggestion for making sure that doesn’t happen to you. They said:

“If the chicken breast isn’t being kept in a hot well (the metal case that the meat balls get held in), ask them to microwave the chicken breast even if you get the sandwich toasted. A lot of times the chicken breasts aren’t thawed properly and even if you toast the sandwich, it will be cold in the middle.”

5. Meatball Marinara

When you want easy comfort food, a classic sandwich to order at Subway is the Meatball Marinara. First, it’s more affordable than other comfort-fast-food options. It’s tasty, fills you up, and is a close enough approximation of home-cooked goodness that you can call it self-care without feeling too ridiculous. But this is not a lunch on-the-go option. It’s a knife-and-fork, open-faced sandwich.

Homemade Subway Sandwich

Hi. It’s me. I have been pretty busy lately, thus the lack of blog posts.

Sheesh, that was a VERY boring opening, let’s do it all over again.

Hello lovely people! I have missed you just as much as how I have been missing the sandwiches from Subway. Okay, maybe I missed you guys a little bit more. ♥

So it was Mother’s day last Sunday. We ordered a take out of Indian food. Naan, tandoori chicken, kebabs.. you know those kinda yummy stuffs. It was just a small celebration as we would be having another party this coming Sunday for mom’s birthday. Yup, her birthday is a week after mother’s day and she always gets a double weekend celebration every year. ♥

I am gonna be really busy from this weekend for the upcoming three weeks. Starting from mom’s birthday party this weekend and then we would be shifting after that. Yup, finally it is time to move. Following week to next, that is!

The cousin’s big day is coming up in June. She is my closest maternal cousin and I would have to really sweat it out the whole week for her wedding. #teambride. I am going to be doing her candy/dessert table. Besides the candies and chocolates that we are going to be buying, I would also be baking cookies, muffins and brownies. Am gonna be surrounded by hungry, cute, loud and excited kids due to all those sugar rush. God bless me.

Anyhoo, most of the fast food joints in Singapore is Halal, from MCD to KFC to Pizza hut. Subway on the other hand is not halal certified and usually the Muslims community over here would get our subway dose from Malaysia since it is halal and therefore easily available. Do you know that the capital city of Johor in southern Malaysia is basically just next to Singapore? It would take you about 1.5 hours to reach there from Singapore. Isn’t it ridiculous that I am technically overseas in like 90 minutes? Whenever I enter the subway in Malaysia, I would exit with at least 8 subs. That is how you should roll when you are in Malaysia. Food galore at its best.

As easy and convenient buying a Subway is, I don’t think you can really go there every day or every other day just to appease yourself. This Homemade Subway Sandwich on the other hand, requires minimum effort. You essentially set forth with a bread of your option, be it a baguette or a ciabatta or even the honey oat bread like the ones Subway uses. You then top it with delicious slices of meats like turkey ham, beef bacon or even meatballs and fill it up with vegetables. My preference would be lettuce, onions, peppers and tomatoes. Finally, drizzle some sauce to bring it all together. You can do a mayo drizzle, an onion sauce or even a vinaigrette. How easy was that? It would take you barely 10 minutes. You need at least 15 minutes to dress up to go to Subway. If you are me, you would need 60 minutes. Minimum.

Whenever I am craving for a subway and there is no way of me going to Malaysia to grab one, I would make this. ↓

I really enjoy a good sandwich. The crunch from the lettuce, the juicy tomatoes and oozing cheese! You got to have the cheese man. Making your own subway sandwich is really an easy way to enjoy your sandwich, just the way you like it. Making a sub is also a quick way to fill the kids lunch boxes. These Homemade Subway Sandwich are too dandy for those busy days when you do not really have time to fuss in the kitchen after a long day’s work, yet you wanna serve something yummy. Can anyone resist a sub? Na’ah!

Subway

The Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki Sandwich, one of Subway's biggest new product rollouts, is made with common ingredients: teriyaki-glazed chicken breast strips, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, and olives. But what sets it apart from all other teriyaki chicken sandwiches is Subway's delicious Sweet Onion Sauce. You can ask for as much of the scrumptious sauce as you want on your custom-made sub at the huge sandwich chain, but you won't get any extra to take home, even if you offer to pay. Now you can pour a copycat version of the sauce to your home-built sandwich masterpieces whenever you want.

Find more copycat recipes for famous sauces here.

Everyone hip on Subway's sandwiches knows the key to cloning the flavor of many of the chain's top-sellers is in hacking the secret sauces. For example, Subway's Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki Sandwich is pretty bland without the ground chipotle chile in the spice section of your market. McCormick makes good stuff.

Let's face it, it's the sauce that makes this sandwich so good. If you take the Bourbon Street Glaze away from Subway's new Bourbon Street Chicken Sandwich, you end up with. a boring chicken sub. Once you've got this secret sauce cloned, you can drizzle it over your next boring chicken sub to experience the greatness that is one of Subway's most delicious products.

8. Black Forest Ham

The Black Forest Ham sandwich shouldn't be better than the Cold Cut Combo sandwich, but it is. This just goes to prove that more isn't always better. If you order this sandwich, the flavor of the black forest ham will have the room and the opportunity to shine and won't be crowded with other meats angling for your attention. True, this is unlikely to be the greatest ham that you've ever tasted but the texture is pleasant and its flavor is still pretty good. Compared to Subway's steak, anyway, this black forest ham is a godsend.

The basic ingredients that come with the Black Forest Ham sandwich are lettuce, spinach, green peppers, red onions, cucumbers, and tomatoes. To help add some pizzazz to this sandwich, you should strongly consider adding both cheese and sauce. For the cheese, Subway's provolone is a good choice and pairs nicely with the sweet and savory flavor of the ham. White American cheese would also do a fine job. As for the sauce, anything from mayonnaise to honey mustard would work. If that's still not enough excitement for your ham-hungry palate, consider adding black olives and banana peppers for an added flavor boost.

How do you make a healthy sub sandwich?

By opting for whole grain wheat bread, you can increase the fiber in your sub sandwich and make it healthier. Choosing lighter options like a red wine vinaigrette and lean sandwich meats, you will also cut down on the fats.

When you make these ahead of time, leave off any dressing until they are served so they transport well. They will hold best that way and not get soggy. I also wrapped each sub sandwich up in cellophane wrap to keep it as fresh as possible. I had half a leftover sub the next day and it was still amazing!

Separation Anxiety in Pets

Separation anxiety in pets is a real thing and recognizing the warning signs is important.

Since March, Covid-19 required most of the world to quarantine in their homes. Majority of people ended up working from home for nearly five months. This meant pet owners were constantly with their pets giving them attention, playing with them, letting them out etc. Therefore, when the world slowly started to open up again and pet owners began returning to normal life work schedules away from the home, pet owners noticed a difference in the way their pet acted. Many pets develop separation anxiety especially during this crazy time when majority people were stuck inside barely leaving the house.

Separation Anxiety in Pets Can Lead to:

Chewing, Digging and Destruction

What Causes Separation Anxiety:

A number of things can cause separation anxiety in pets. A clear reason right now is due to covid-19 requiring individuals to stay home for extended periods of time. Then these individuals were able to return to their daily lives leaving pets along for extended periods of time. Another reason is some adoptable dogs may have separation anxiety when first adopted because they fear their guardian may leave. Another cause is if a pet experiences a sudden change in its normal routine for example covid-19 it can in return cause separation anxiety in them. Be aware that also moving can cause separation anxiety so if your dog and you move around a lot it can trigger separation anxiety in your pet.

How to Maintain Separation Anxiety:

If your pet has a mild case of separation anxiety try turning when you leave into something exciting for your pet. This can mean offering them treats before you leave so they start to associate you leaving with getting a treat. It can also be helpful to leave them puzzle like toys like the brand KONG offers toys that you can put treats into or put food like peanut butter, or cheese in. This toy will distract your pet for a while, and they get a reward when they play with the toy. These toys try to offer only to your pet when you leave the house. This will train your pet to start to enjoy the time when you leave because they know they will be given a reward.

If you pet has a moderate case of separation anxiety it can take more time to get them accustomed to you leaving. This means taking the process of leaving them way slower. Start only leaving your pet for short periods at a time and continue to reward them. As they begin to get used to it increase the period of which you are gone. Over time your pet will start to recognize that it is oaky you are gone because they receive rewards. For dogs who have severe anxiety especially when they notice you put on shoes or grab your keys. For these pets try to associate these items with you not always leaving. Try to use these items but not leave to show your pet they are not to be feared of these items. If you have a pet who typically follows you around try to do things like telling your dog to sit and stay outside a bathroom door while you enter that room. Gradually increase the time you leave your pet on the other side of the door. This trains a pet that they can be by themselves and will be okay. This process will take a while so remain calm and patient with your pet. This process should start out in a room but should overtime get up to you being able to leave your house and go outside without your pet following. Continue to watch for signs of stress in your pet like pacing, trembling, panting etc. If any of these signs and others appear take a step back and move slower. During this overall process it is important you take it slowly so try to not really leave your pet at all which can be very difficult. Try to arrange if you do need to leave that someone like a friend can stop by and be with your pet or try using a doggy daycare service just so your pet is not totally alone.

Some Other Tips:

When greeting your pet after being gone say hello in a calm manner and then ignore them until they begin to remain calm. Same thing with saying goodbye remain calm and do not give into them being wild and crazy. To calm them try having them perform a task they know like sit or down. Another tip is to possible crate train your pet. If your pet associates their crate with being a safe place this can ease their anxiety when you do go to leave. It can also be helpful if you do not crate your pet to provide a safe room that your pet typically fees the most comfortable in. Another tip is to provide plenty of mental stimulation for your pet like treats and toys. Also try giving your dog some sort of exercise before you leave every day. Leaving hidden treats and food for your pet to find throughout the day will also keep them busy and entertained. If none of the above tips help, try seeking help from a professional in pet behaviors. They will be able to determine a regimen to help you and your pet get better. Medication may also be necessary for severe cases so to speak to a veterinarian about the different options for your pet.

Separation anxiety can be common in pets especially after the year everyone has had. Look for signs of separation anxiety in your pets and notice the different ways you can assist your pet in getting better. Also remember to never punish your pet for any anxious behaviors. Do your best to not discipline and instead use these tips to avoid future behaviors. Separation anxiety can be maintained with patience.
